Research and publications include extracting and analyzing onboard electronic crash data as well as documenting and analyzing transportation crashes. He testifies as an expert on electronic data and reconstruction.
Since 2000, John Steiner has been responsible for the analysis and engineering reconstruction of hundreds of automobile, auto-pedestrian, truck, bicycle and motorcycle collisions including rollover and under/override type accidents.
Specializes in the areas of accident scene and vehicle documentation, motor vehicle accident reconstruction and analysis, accessing and interpreting Event Data Recorders (EDR), Heavy Vehicle Event Data Recorders (HVEDR) also known as "Blackboxes".
- Testifies as an expert in the areas of accident reconstruction and analysis as well as the access and interpretation of EDR and HVEDR data.
- Conducted and managed rapid responses to major transportation accidents in order to document and analyze vehicle damage and roadway physical evidence.
- Downloaded hundreds of passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle Event Data Recorders (EDR), also known as "Blackboxes".
Engineering responsibilities include the systematic analysis of all collected physical evidence, including EDR data to reconstruct transportation accidents. He is designated as the West Coast service provider for Mack Trucks, Inc. and Volvo Trucks North America LLC providing Incident Log data imaging and reporting services since August 2008 to present.
John Steiner is one of three instructors for the SAE workshop on Accessing and Interpreting Heavy Vehicle Event Data Recorders (Course ID # C1022) from December 2010 to present.
